Tekweni is located in the centre of Durbans hippest entertainment are: pubs, clubs, restaurants and markets are on the doorstep. It is comprised of 3 neighbouring houses the oldest and main house built in 1896. The hostel was established in 1992 making it one of the first five hostels in the country and the longest established in Durban. We are close to everything, only two km to the beach and town.
The various types of accommodation ramble across the 3 properties. You have the choice of staying right in the middle of the action or in one of our quieter more remote rooms away from the hustle and bustle. The rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated all with ceiling fans. We also offer accommodation in our fully furnished flats on a monthly basis on request.

Our fully equipped stainless steel kitchen is complete with all you need to whip up a great chow. Our numerous ablutions have been renovated to cater for the volumes and the needs of the backpacker. We have unlimited safe parking on the premises. We also have 24 hour security as well as cctv cameras. We have excellent fast internet access with an adsl connection. Our satelite provides all the current sports in our poolside sportsbar as well as all the current movies and tv stuff in our lounge. The indoor outdoor feel is complete with numerous seating areas giving you the choice of the ambience you desire at the time.
We built our reputation through our festive atmosphere and fun loving approach. You can PARTY ON at our poolside sportsbar, catch some rays, groove to the tunes or ‘kick some butt’ around our pool table. We have ‘braais’ every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. We provide the salad and rolls and light the fire. A great way to meet other backpackers, you bring your own meat (or whatever) and cook and socialise together with our multi-national clientelle.
Our Travel Info Centre is also based next to the pool (You guessed it; everything is next to the pool. The centralised set-up is what encourages our incredible social atmosphere. Everything flows together in an area which is often described as the Bermuda Triangle of Southern African Backpackers). Through our travel centre you can book pretty much anything in the budget market in Southern Africa. This includes a variety of tours throughout KZN, all major overland tours, other tours throughout Southern Africa, Baz Bus, Greyhound, Intercape, the cheapest car hire, diving, sky diving, surfing, other adventure activities and much more. DIRECTIONS
WE ARE JUST OFF THE FAMOUS FLORIDA RD. TURN INTO NINTH AVE OPPOSITE THE FLORIDA PARK HOTEL WHICH HOUSES THE POPULAR BUTCHERBOYS RESTAURANT AND THE ELEPHANT AND CASTLE PUB. WE ARE THREE HOUSES UP ON THE RIGHT SIDE; YOU CAN’T MISS US. CONTACT US AHEAD OF TIME AND WE WILL ADVISE YOU THE EASIEST WAY TO GET TO US.
IF YOU ARE TRAVELLING BY CAR, FROM THE N2 HIGHWAY YOU TURN OFF AT THE N3 HIGHWAY TOWARDS DURBAN. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES YOU TAKE THE TOLLGATE TURN OFF (IT IS THE NEXT ONE AFTER THE BRICKFIELD RD TURN OFF). THE TURN OFF GOES STRAIGHT AND RUNS PARALLEL WITH THE HIGHWAY. YOU TURN LEFT AT YOUR 4TH TRAFFIC LIGHT WHICH IS BOTANIC GARDENS RD. YOU FOLLOW THIS ROAD STRAIGHT AS FAR AS YOU CAN GO UNTIL YOU REACH A T-JUNCTION (THE ROAD CHANGES NAMES TO COWEY ROAD AT SOME POINT BUT IT IS ONE STRAIGHT ROAD). YOU TURN RIGHT AT THE T-JUNCTION INTO MONTPELLIER RD. YOU THEN TURN INTO YOUR SECOND LEFT WHICH IS NINTH AVE. WE ARE THE SECOND HOUSE ON THE LEFT, NUMBER 169; THE HOUSE IS A LARGE MAROON (PURPLE) HOUSE WITH THE TEKWENI LIZZARD ON THE FRONT. (YOU CAN’T MISS IT) RING THE BUZZER AND THE PERSON AT RECEPTION WILL LET YOU IN. GOOD LUCK!
